This is the second version of the famous MNET LAN Utilities Suite. The first version was developed by Marvin Fresno, Eugene Bulatao, Eugene Poral, and Neil-Paul Bermundo. It was a text-based DOS program with a very clever touch of networking. It did work and was a finalist in the First ever Undergraduate Research competition in 1994 at the College of Engineering, University of the Philippines, Diliman. Though it didnt win the competition, it earned the members a grade of 1.0, the highest mark that the UP system gives to outstanding performance in a course.
After graduation in April 17, 1994, the members went their separate ways to pursue their respective careers. Eugene Poral joined NEC (Nippon Electric Company) and immediately went to Japan for 2 years of training. Eugene Bulatao joined CIS (Computer Information Services) and worked in Informix and other 4GL languages. Marvin and Neil-Paul joined Topmax Philippines, a Japanese subsidiary developing printer embedded software. The members seldom see each other in two years time.
It is now 1999. Marvin and Neil-Paul are still working in the same place but in the United States of America. They left Topmax to join Interim Technology based in New Jersey for a consultancy job. To save money, they shared and apartment. There, they built a mini-LAN of two Gateway Pentium II machines. They both have Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 SP4, Visual Studio 5.0/6.0 (C++, Basic) SP2 and Office 97 SP2. The development of the second version of MNET LAN Utilities is just a matter of time.
The goal: to make a robust, GUI-based, Windows 98/NT capable and graphical MNET Version.
Man-hours plan: 60 (2 months).
Strategy:
Study on C++ and OOP
Learn Windows Network programming
Gather tools for messaging
Implement
Test
Distribute
The second version will be a shareware program and will be uploaded in Winfiles, Download and ZDNet web sites.
Good luck to the developers composed initially by Marvin and Neil-Paul.
